El Paso Youth Hockey Meeting Minutes

June 18, 2016

Paper Free Contracts:

-The Rhinos are going paper free! Run through the team websites to ensure compliance with USA Hockey, each player will need to have a current 2016-2017 USA Hockey number to access the contract.  Several players were not in compliance last season, which went undiscovered until well into the season.

-Please obtain USA Hockey numbers as soon as possible (http://www.usahockey.com/membership).  Payments will be made via powerpay, an online merchandising tool with the capability to interact with account statements and consider payment options.  Register ASAP!

-Team Managers will utilize the team websites for verification of rosters, communicating with players and families

Fees: The 2016-2017 season will follow the same fee schedule as the 2015-2016 season.  Included are: practices (ice time), four tournaments for Mini-Mites, Mites, Squirts, Peewees.  Jerseys will stay the same this year

Schedules:

All schedules will be available after the Rhinos and Miners have been set.  Two large scale tournaments will be occurring at our rink this season:

-The Miners will be hosting a tournament in February; a call out to any/all adults interested in becoming a linesman and/or referee is being sounded!

-CHS and FHS will host the High School tournament in March

Fundraising:

Angie Markusson is steering the fundraising efforts.  A committee will be formed to chair separate events.  The goal of the Fundraising Committee is to provide financial transparency and accountability as well as providing a look at the long range achievement of goals supporting youth hockey.  Meaghan Rochefort has accepted the Treasurer position, whose duties will include tracking the gains and losses from fundraising events as well as the doling out of funds to players’ accounts.  Other chair positions will be announced as soon as the duties are clarified and assigned.

Opportunities for fundraising will be announced as they come available.  Soliciting sponsorships from individuals and commercial businesses are encouraged to defray costs.  The Rhinos are a 501C3 organization allowing for a letter confirming a donation can be provided to sponsoring businesses/individuals.  Select/Elite/National Team will have fundraising opportunities both separate and shared with Travel teams.

Current Opportunities:

-Chihuahua concessions (at this time volunteers are earning approximately $50-60 toward their account each time)

-Rhino Run, Sunday August 21

-Golf Tournament

Training:

-ADM Training (http://www.admkids.com/) has been beneficial in the younger teams.  This approach fosters skill development, program-wide team unity, and seamless transitions from one age group to another

-10,000 Shot Challenge (http://www.hockeyshare.com/10000pucks/) on the site you can access drill videos and log shots taken each day.   The “winner” will be recognized at a Rhinos game.

Team Managers:

Each team will need a team manager (formerly Team Mom).  The coaches for each team will contact potential candidates to discuss the duties.
